Kim Blais shaping clay at the wheel

About Kim

Kim Blais is an emerging ceramic artist based in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, working under the studio name Kim’s Clay. Her connection to ceramics began at age eight in Eugene, Oregon, when a childhood clay class introduced her to the magic of transforming mud into form. Though decades passed before she returned to making, she continued to feel drawn to handmade ceramics and the work of other artists.

In 2017, a hand-building class at Emerge reignited that dormant creative spark. Kim soon created a home studio and began a daily ceramics practice. Working primarily in wheel-thrown and hand-sculpted stoneware, she creates bowls, vases, mugs, flowers, hearts, and playful fish forms that combine function, touch, experimentation, and humor.

Her work carries the influence of a life shaped by anthropology, education, mothering, travel, and years spent working with Guatemalan artists and craftspeople. A scuba diver since age fifteen, Kim also draws from her early experiences underwater, which continue to inspire her sculptural fish forms.

Kim’s ceramics are approachable, tactile, and full of curiosity. She hopes her work invites people to touch, use, smile, and connect with handmade objects. Her pieces can currently be found at Yours, The Shop at Emerge in downtown Coeur d’Alene.
